AppliColor Inc. is setting new standards for the assessment of biological properties. Our application is called “POMA”. It works on a Microsoft Surface Pro 8. POMA produces a precise measurement of chlorophyll health, bacteria, fungus and viral infections, freshness, available shelf life and taste factors. What sets POMA apart is its ability to produce immediate evaluation of produce, fish and field crops such as melons, seed potatoes and leafy greens.
Evaluating plant health and freshness
POMA evaluates plant health similar to the way in which a chlorophyll meter presents chlorophyll sensitivity visually, displaying every pixel in an image. POMA provides disease diagnostics and assessment of chlorophyll performance, ripeness, senescence and brix (sweetness). A disruptive technology for the agriculture industry, POMA will quickly identify disease, temperature issues and a fruit or vegetable’s remaining shelf life.
POMA is a new methodology for each stop on the supply chain
- For growers, POMA helps make cultivation decisions that may optimize yields.
- POMA will provide distributors the ability to detect pathogens and monitor shelf life.
- For consumers, POMA offers a simple app for selecting fresh produce at the market.
- POMA will provide the industry with protections against significant loss of market share incurred by a single pathogen outbreak such as E. coli, listeria, salmonella or cytospora.
- Our POMA products classify pathogens such as E. coli, listeria and salmonella.
We can identify when a crop field is at risk from infections
We are helping farmers by detecting pathogens before the results can come back from the lab so that mitigation efforts can begin earlier.
Rapid pathogen safety testing for packagers
E. coli, salmonella and listeria outbreaks result in severe damage-control efforts and escalating costs. AppliColor is developing cost-effective approaches that test every leaf in a shipment rather than the current sampling practices that test only a few leaves.
POMA and bacteria and fungal diseases
- Because POMA can provide both data and images, POMA presents easily understood, actionable intelligence that can optimize harvest mitigation decisions.
- Immediate immune responses to pathogens are identified before they can be visualized by farmers and government crop inspectors.
- Insect-vectored diseases such as PVY potato virus or Red Blotch grapevine disease can be systematically mitigated. POMA can immediately identify immune responses to many pathogens, relative growth rates and photosynthesis rates for every plant in a field.
