Stand Counts, PVY and Blackleg Drone Services
PomaFresh drone services provide stand counts, detect PVY and Blackleg-diseased plants and provide exact GPS positions of infected plants.
POMA is a patented method that uses ordinary cameras, including drone cameras, to identify diseased plants. POMA’s advanced technology measures subtle changes in refraction of diseased chlorophyll layers deep within a leaf or stem. According to an initial study conducted in Othello, Washington, POMA demonstrated 97.5% accuracy when compared to state inspector mosaic PVY results.
POMA drone capabilities can be used by potato-seed growers to analyze every plant in a field
In this POMA drone image, the light-shaded leaves on the right indicate Blackleg disease in dying plants. The gray area around the dying plants shows where bacteria has spread
We provide actionable data you can use
- Stand counts by designated area
- Percentage of stressed plants by disease
- Detailed listing of every plant with PVY or Blackleg by GPS position in the areas flown
- In many instances, POMA can indicate if the source of a PVY infection is from seeds or current season insect infestations
POMA assessment process
- Scout day and flight plan—one week before scheduled crop assessment
- Drone fly day(s)—data capture
- Analysis usually delivered within 72 hours of flight
We know it’s not easy
The sun and weather are changing variables that make it difficult to get accurate data. Many growers have tried drone services before and been dissappointed. The deliverable was neither actionable nor timely. Our deliverable is actionable—and includes Google Earth GPS points that you can navigate to guide remediation efforts.
The POMA advantage
- PVY and Blackleg results are immediate.
- No sample collection labor, no lab fees and no delays waiting for lab-test results.
